they are critical, that is unless you can't pollinate by hand...
anyway, bees sure help
and many people don't have them anymore,
but one way to have lots is to plant things that feed them,
just think, one rosemary bush can keep lots of bees going
but it has made sure that many bees are in the area.
it should have just been planted in an area just for perennial plants
so if you live outside an area with the commercial farming (that seems to kill the bees now) then you should be able to have all the bees you want in a few years,
just plant something they love that grows all the time years on end.
