black eyed peas or southern peas or cowpeas,
they are all the same thing
and are form aftrica so they can take hot or cold, wet or dry better than common beans,
they are usually very productive,
my tiny plot sure is not this year,
they have been in the ground for about 2 months now and keep getting leveled
3 years ago I got about a quart of harvest from that many plants
the ones I am growing are called mississippi silver
and use to be listed on this page
http://www.southernexposure.com/vegetables-southern-peas-cowpeas-c-3_121.html
but looks like they no longer have them...
good thing I am saving my own seeds,
and good thing I planed them in more than one garden plot,
here they are growing happily in the other garden
they were planted about 1 or 2 weeks after the others that totally failed
and even have flowers on them now
not that you can see it in this picture,
anyway, they produce lots for what you plant (usually),
they have a place in most gardens,
black eyed peas are a very balanced food as far as single plants go,
they don't take long to cook when comparing to things like beans,
and they are seeds, very easy to store for the winter.
so think about growing some of them.
